The
consumer law as we all know is a law that we might consider as one of the most
important laws that has been implemented in the whole world. The consumer
law involves all of the regulations and statutes that seek to create a
more equitable balance for buyers in the marketplace and prevent sellers from
using dishonest tactics. A consumer is any individual who purchases
goods or services, which may be sold by manufacturers, wholesalers, or
retailers.
With this law, buyers are
gonna be aware of what they are buying, such as the ingredients in food; that
advertising is fair and does not mislead; that debt collection is fair, and
nearly every step in the buying and selling of goods is ordered towards
creating a level playing field. Anyways, let’s get to the point. Why is the
consumer law important and why should buyers be aware of the consumer law?
Well, according to the department of health the main reason why the buyers
should be aware of the consumer law is so that the buyers would know the laws against
deceptive advertising and pricing, when they apply. False advertising has been
a problem, not just in the Philippines but in the whole world. And this is
where the department of health comes in… The department of health has given out
tips on how to spot out false advertising namely :
-The product is advertised as a
quick and effective cure-all for a wide range of illness.
-Certain key words like "scientific breakthrough, miracle cure, all
natural without side-effects or ancient remedy" are used.
And a lot more…
Obviously the Department of Health is
taking these types of things seriously and has shown strict implementation
towards the buyers. But the question is,
“why are they doing this?” well, it’s just logic to be honest, and what
I mean is that the reason why they’re taking this seriously is to make buyers
safe and aware. With all of these false advertising going around,
hypothetically, some buyers would believe on these things and could possibly
not get the result that they wanted. A real example of this is when my uncle
bought a low calorie milk ,thinking it was but apparently wasn’t, he knew it
was fake when he noticed instead of him getting lower weight, it instead grew
by a lot.
In summary,
Buyers like us should always be aware of the consumer law, to avoid getting
deceived by sellers. But this also applies to sellers as well, once you’re
caught violating the law, you will be punished for doing such thing. When you engage in false advertising, your
consumers will perceive you as untrustworthy. Both the customers you already
have and any potential new customers will tend to feel like you betrayed them
and take their business elsewhere. Your customers won't be loyal anymore and
that will ruin your business. Hopefully, all of these “false advertising” and
such could stop, in-order for buyers to stop getting fooled.
